Dylan Murray

Physiotherapist

B.Ex.Sci., B. Phty.

Dylan graduated from Griffith University in 2012. Since 2017, he has worked exclusively in private musculoskeletal practice, joining Palm Beach Physiotherapy Centre in 2019.

Dylan is a passionate student on the topic of stress. How poorly controlled stress can slowly take advantage of our body, mind, and spirit—and, more importantly, how we can learn to take back control and harness stress for our advantage.

Over the years, Dylan has travelled internationally to participate in health retreats with monks, shamans, and spiritual healers. He has personally explored traditional cultural medicines, meditation, breath work, pain science, heat exposure, and cold water immersion training, treating his body as a science experiment. Safe to say, if he recommends something in the clinic, he has definitely tried it!

Clinically, Dylan has a special interest in dry needling and completing introductory and advanced training courses. Dylan has performed thousands of hours of dry needling for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, and in combination with traditional physiotherapy interventions, he consistently delivers excellent results for our clients.

Dylan has also completed courses in strength and conditioning, therapeutic and sports taping, hydrotherapy, and acupuncture, and he is always looking for new ways to expand his knowledge and skills.

Dylan works regularly in the clinic and provides in-home physiotherapy services to those in the local suburbs who cannot attend the clinic.

Quick Questions with Dylan Murray

What inspired you to pursue a career in physiotherapy?

I had my share of medical issues as a kid – primarily recurrent infections & minor surgeries on my ears. At age 11 I had major surgery to remove a potentially life threatening tumour, and have been partially deaf since. Through my teen years my mum would take me to my Ear Nose & Throat specialist for check-ups and clean outs. He became a hero figure to me and these experiences had a big influence on my interest in pursuing a career in health. As for Physio – I’d never seen one as a kid, but growing up I was always involved in many different sports and active hobbies. It was by sheer luck that I found myself accepted into a degree that meshed both of these interests together.

If you weren’t a physiotherapist, what profession would you have pursued?

Before Physio I started an Optometry degree – 6 months in I dropped out and was accepted into Physio the following year.  I was really strong in math & accounting at school. I love crunching numbers and problem solving. So if not a health profession, then likely something in commerce/finance. But if I could steal any one person’s job in the world – it would have been one of the presenters on Top Gear – paid to travel the world testing and joyriding in the greatest cars on the planet.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job as a physiotherapist?

Helping people understand pain and conquer their limitations. Pain is a universal human experience. Nothing can bring your life to a grinding halt faster. I understand the language of pain & it is extremely rewarding helping others to understand and overcome.

If you could be a superhero, which one would you be and why?

Batman – I had BOXES full of Batman toys as a kid. World’s greatest detective, strategic thinker, overcomes his pain, embraces his fears. Batman proves you don’t need superpowers to be a hero. Despite his imperfections, trials and tribulations he stands by his moral compass and strives for the common good. He would make a great Physio! His bank account would be nice too.

What’s your idea of a perfect holiday?

A deep dive into weird and whacky cultural traditions & health practices. Staying & socialising in backpacker hostels. Hiking for days through natural scenery. In 2017 I spent most of the year travelling South America. Best thing I ever did. Weeks in the Amazon rainforest, weeks hiking the Andes, deserts, coastlines. Working with Shamans, monks. Meeting amazing people, creating amazing memories. Highly recommend a long solo trip to anyone. Lots of discoveries to be made, inside yourself and outside your doorstep.
